When it comes to comparing laptop computers and PDAs, there are advantages and disadvantages to each. While the PDA is certainly much more portable, if it runs out of power while youre away from a power outlet, theres not much you can do to get the device up and running again. With external laptop batteries, a new battery can be popped into the notebook to continue using it even when the power from another battery fades away.
While PDAs use the same type of lithium ion battery as many notebook computers, theres no easy way to swap the battery out with a new one. On a notebook, the process is very straightforward and takes only a few seconds.

Aside from the glaring differences between PDA and laptop batteries, they actually share one common thread: theyre expensive and somewhat difficult to replace. Its not so much that theyre hard to find replacement batteries for, but it can be quite overwhelming to know which one to buy. Much like finding a new cartridge for a printer, hunting for a specific battery can be rather frustrating for the unfamiliar.
However, shopping online for batteries can be a very easy and streamlined process, even for the novice computer user. Many websites offer an advanced search form where a user selects their make and model of device from a list of manufacturers and device types. Once the information has been submitted, a list of results showing the batteries that will work for the device is shown, all within a minute or two.
